A Few Days in Zurich - Switzerland

After a 4 hour train trip we finally arrived in Zurich at about 4.30pm. We dragged our suitcases from the station to the Aldstadt (old part of Zurich) where our hotel was. It was called Hotel ZicZac Hard Rock Hotel (we found this hotel after much surfing on the internet to find a comparitively cheap hotel near the train station). Yes we are still a pair of old rockers! We had the Supertramp room and on the walls of the lobby were pictures of Elvis, the Beatles and other famous dudes from our era. It had a bar and hamburger joint downstairs, an Indian restaurant next door and many restaurants all around. Zurich comes alive in the evening and the streets are covered in outdoor eating places. As it is summer and the nights have been very mild the streets are crowded until after 11.

We visited Liane’s auntie one day. We walked along the river and found her place quite easily. Liane remembered it well from when she was there 6 years ago! We spent a lovely afternoon together and her Auntie cooked us a typical Italian meal with Italian wine for lunch as she knew we were heading off to Italy next.

The next day we caught the train to Schaffhausen to see the Rhine falls. Tips for travellers get off one stop before at Neuhausen, then you don’t need to catch the bus down. The falls were rather spectacular very similar to the Nile Falls in Uganda. The sheer volume of water going over was awesome as was the spray.

We walked under a rocky wall and saw this plaque with a quote from the Bible…Psalm 150:6 "Let everything that breathes praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!"

Afterwards we walked back through the shopping area of Zurich and found the Beyer clock (Liane’s maiden name).

Can I have this watch Liane?

What about a handbag Rex? Sorry Liane you won’t get past the doorman!

A new outfit?

Look at this gorgeous handbag!

Too bad it was only window shopping!!

We rested our weary legs at the edge of the Zurich lake where many famous people like Tina Turner have a little home away from home.

The next morning Liane’s auntie met us at the station with a gift of Swiss Chocolates and a bottle of wine for us to enjoy on our next rail trip!

We really enjoyed the café culture of Zurich! (and Germany)

Beautiful modern stained glass windows in the Fraumunster Church. These were created by artist Marc Chagall

We came across all these cows? Well Switzerland is all about Swiss chocolate!
